1. What are your application closing dates? 1. What are your application closing dates? Closing dates for UCAS applications in 2010 are: 15 January 2010: Architecture, Architectural Design Technology and Production
2. When are your Art and Design Open Days? There is a list of open day dates, directions and a booking form on our Open Days page. Open Days give you and your family the opportunity to tour our facilities and accommodation, find out about our programmes, chat with academic staff and students, and more. 3. What bursaries or scholarships are available? You can find out about scholarships and bursaries on the DMU Funding page. 4. How long will I have to wait for my offer? Once you have submitted your application to UCAS and received confirmation that it has been accepted, it should take around five working days to reach the university. The Faculty should take approximately five working days to make a decision on applications that meet the standard criteria. If your application does not meet the standard requirements for the course then the process may take longer. To check the status of your application, go to your online UCAS tracker, or you can contact us and we will be happy to advise you. 5. I want to take a year out but still keep my place. How can I do that? If you are thinking about deferring your application, we recommend that you contact us to discuss your options.
6. I am a mature student. Is the application process the same? You make an application to UCAS like everyone else, but we will focus on your work experience, work-based training and ambitions in your personal statement. Applications from mature students usually get reviewed by the course leader and in some circumstances we will contact you for more information or an interview. Higher education defines anyone over the age of 23 as a mature student. 7. I have been given a conditional offer, but I am not sure I will get the right results. What should I do? Worrying about results is something every student does, and most people get the results they expected. However, if you do not receive the results you were expecting and you no longer meet your conditional offer, you should contact us right away. We will talk to you about your options and see if we can make up the UCAS points elsewhere or change your course. 8. There has been a problem with my results and they will be late. Will I lose my place? There is always a group of students who have not received their results when everyone else has. Sometimes there are problems classifying the results for every student in the country, and we will always make as many allowances as possible for people in this situation. If you have a conditional offer with us, you have a reserved place. We would advise that if you are in this situation you contact us as soon as possible so that we can make a note of it. 9. How can I change the course I have applied for? Changing course is not a difficult process, we understand that people can have a change of heart after coming to an open day or having a chat with friends. All we require is an email (from the email address you registered with UCAS) or letter explaining that you would like to change course. Please include your name, date of birth, the name of the course you would like to change to and your UCAS application number. 10. I would like to transfer to De Montfort University from another institution. How can I do that? Transferring universities may take some time due to the amount of steps involved for the two universities. Firstly you need to contact the university you would like to attend and ask if they have vacancies for the course you are interested in. If you meet the academic requirements and are able to join the university, you will need to request a withdrawal from the institution where you hold an offer. After you have been withdrawn you can select another option through UCAS via a process called UCAS Extra. 11. My qualifications do not appear in the UCAS Tariff. How can I found out if they meet the requirements for the course I would like to study? When qualifications do not appear in the UCAS tariff we ask our admissions experts to examine the level of qualification, method of study, length of course and number of guided learning hours in order to establish an equivalence to existing qualifications. We may need to know more than you have included in your application so we will contact you via email or telephone. If you have international qualifications then we will use a service provided by www.naric.co.uk to discover an equivalence. 12. Should I declare my disability to my chosen university? Yes, whether you have a disability, learning difficulty or medical condition. There is support available for students in Higher Education and the sooner you declare, the sooner we can begin to look into how the University can support you whilst you are studying here. 13. How can I gain a place through Clearing? In order to gain a place through clearing you will need to go to UCAS, www.ucas.ac.uk, and fill in an application form. It won’t take long and when it has been successfully completed, you will be given a clearing number. Once you have your clearing number you can call us on 0116 257 7555 with your results and we’ll help you find a place on one of our courses. 14. I have recieved my results. When will my place be confirmed? At this point you will have chosen your preferred university and course, and you will most likely have received the results from your recent studies. UCAS will forward the following qualification results to us automatically:
If your qualification is not listed, please let us know your result so that we can confirm your place. Send copies of your certificates to: Art and Design Promotions and Recruitment
Telephone: +44 (0)116 257 7555
After we have received your results we will confirm your place. A letter will be sent out in early September to your registered address. Another letter will follow including details about the Enrolment and Induction Week, which will have all the information you need to know about starting your course in Art and Design. 15. What if I haven’t met the conditions of my offer? Please check your UCAS track to see if a decision has been made or an alternative offer has been given. If you are still concerned, contact us. Every year a number of students receive their results and find that they receive much better grades than they thought they would. UCAS adjustment has been designed to help students who do better than expected. If you applied for a course and made it your firm choice you can now look for another course at any other institution if you have exceeded the conditions of your firm choice. If you are eligible then all you need to do is call the university you are interested in and ask about a place on the course you would like to study. To be eligible to use Adjustment:
